intra- versus inter-city mobility

a large portion of city units in england and wales show a systemic lack of adequate mobility and accessibility at various spatial scales. this lack of adequate mobility provisions is at the heart of a less-than-expected economic performance. while such effects are more easily noticeable at larger inter-city scales, the problem is reoccurring at smaller scales and intra-city boundaries. this suggests that although intra-city transport-led agglomeration strategies are fitting, when implemented alone they would only mask mobility shortcomings at smaller scales without addressing the underlying causes of under-performance.

so which ones do you think have an intra-city transport problem?

these are rail-based public transport infrastructure in a number of major uk cities. they are to scale. the names, however, are scaled roughly to the total sum of the track lengths. if you do not seem to be able to see leeds, it is because there aren’t any in leeds!
